Buildup -- Step 2: Engine & Transmission

The engine, clutch bell, and transmission of the Mad Force come pre-assembled from the factory.

All together now: "Thank you Kyosho!"

Update 10/8/02: I received an email yesterday warning me that the factory assembly of the tranny misses an important step, leading to the possibility of severe failure after running the truck for awhile. You're going to need to remove the chain sprocket, bushing and first gear assembly (below).

Here we find the problem -- the four screws that hold the 1st gear spur to its backing plate are assembled with no Loctite. One by one, remove the screws, add Loctite, and screw them back in firmly (but not with such force that you strip the aluminum threads). Reassemble the unit and use Loctite on the sprocket set screw. While you're at it, remove the set screw from the retainer at the other end, and put some Loctite on it as well before screwing it back in.

Many thanks to Damian H. for this tip!
