Suspension Re-Tuning
I finally received my set of Kyosho Ultra Soft springs which had been on backorder from Tower Hobbies for ages. I think these are very good springs for the MF in general; perhaps a tad stiffer than needed, but excellent for bashing. They're still too stiff to use in dual-shock setups, though, in my humble opinion.
A cheaper and better solution for my tastes is the DuraTrax Maximum MT front spring set, sold with two per package. These are progressive-rate springs that are softer than Kyosho Ultra Softs at first, and gradually stiffen up. I found these to be perfect for the truck with stock shocks & pistons and 25wt oil. Remember, solid-axle trucks with huge unsprung weight need very soft suspension settings. You can push down on the truck and complain that it droops too much, but unless you're going to try to ride on top of your truck, this is an irrelevant measure. I tried the DuraTrax springs up front with Kyosho's on the rear at first, but I'm going to go go DTX's all around. On the track, all of the hopping I had complained about before was gone!
